Poker is all about mathematics. But mathematics is more than just computation; it's a way of thinking, a logical, rational approach to problem solving. The branch of mathematics that is of most interest in an application to poker is Decision Theory, which is usually considered to be part of the larger field of Operations Research. Other applied math tools that can be applied to poker are game theory and artificial intelligence. Decision theory is a study of choice in uncertain situations.
